The Adopt-a-Hydrant program is coming back once again for the 2023-24 Winter season.
The Adopt-a-Hydrant program encourages residents of the City of Corner Brook to help keep fire hydrants in the city clear of snow during the winter months. The program is open to all residents, businesses, families and community organizations that want to ensure the safety of their neighbourhoods by volunteering to clear hydrants. This helps firefighters quickly find and use hydrants in an emergency.
If you’re interested in participating, here’s what you need to know:
- Adopt a hydrant. You can do this by heading to www.cornerbrook.com/adoptahydrant and filling out the form.
- Clear a 3 foot area around your adopted hydrant after each snowfall, or when it is heavily covered in snow and clear a path to the street from the hydrant.
- Participants are to report when they’ve cleared the hydrant by calling 709-637-1666 or selecting Report Cleared on the Map.
Each week, firefighters will pick a region of the city and check out the hydrants! They’ll pick a weekly winner and we’ll be awarding gift certificates for local restaurants and businesses. In March 2024 we’ll draw for a $4000 travel voucher from this season’s participants.
Head to www.cornerbrook.com/adoptahydrant, find the nearest hydrant to you on our interactive map, and grab your shovel and snow blower!
