This morning, Mayor Jim Parsons was pleased to announce the name of Corner Brook’s new recreation facility: The Marina Redmond Centre. He was joined by members of council, staff, community partners and the friends and family of Ms. Redmond. Marina served the City of Corner Brook for 27 years, including 23 years as City Clerk, before her passing in 2024.

Marina was devoted to her family and a dedicated public servant, but she also had a passion for sports and recreation. A multi-sport athlete who embraced every opportunity to try something new, Marina not only played, but volunteered and organized, particularly with soccer and basketball. In recent years, Marina introduced many in Corner Brook to pickleball, where she was instrumental in establishing a popular program that attracted players of all ages.

Marina firmly believed that sport should be inclusive, accessible, and fun. Though a fierce competitor on the court, she understood that recreation wasn’t just for elite athletes—it was about staying active, fostering teamwork, and building community through physical activity opportunities for all.

We look forward to welcoming the general public to our beautiful new facility on Saturday, May 24th, and celebrating the lasting legacy of Ms. Redmond for years to come.
