Uncle Vanya, or Scenes from Country Life, is both gut-wrenchingly sad and hilariously funny. Its characters are both admirable and despicable; selfish, narcissistic, prone to depression and whining about their lot in life but also capable of love and passion and self-sacrifice. Full of contradictions, it is both extremely depressing and filled with love and hope. And just like “The Cherry Orchard”, it is a masterpiece.
Uncle Vanya also features the work of Grenfell’s second, third and fourth year students. It is directed by Michael Waller, with Costume design by Vickie Marston, Set by roy Hansen-robitschek, and Lights by Harry Tibbo.
